There are two main types of batteries for electric cars, storage batteries and fuel cells. Storage batteries are suitable for pure electric vehicles, including lead-acid batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, sodium sulfur batteries, secondary Lithium Batteries, air batteries, three-way lithium batteries. 

It varies slightly depending on the type of electric vehicle. In pure electric vehicles equipped only with batteries, the role of the battery is the only power source of the vehicle drive system.

In hybrid electric vehicles equipped with conventional engines (or fuel cells) and storage batteries, the battery can play the role of the main power source of the vehicle drive system, can also act as an auxiliary power source. It can be seen that at low speed and start-up, the battery plays the role of the main power source of the vehicle drive system; At full load acceleration, it acts as the auxiliary power source; It is used to store energy during normal driving or when slowing down or braking.

The life of an Electric Car Battery is usually measured in charge cycles, or the number of times a battery is fully charged and discharged.

The battery capacity of an electric vehicle is measured in kilowatt hours (kWh).

"The battery capacity of an electric vehicle is expressed in kilowatt-hours, or KWH for short. The more, the better. Choosing an electric vehicle with a higher kilowatt-hour rating is like buying a car with a larger fuel tank, as you can travel more miles before you need to "refuel." 

Almost all electric cars are built to prevent batteries from being charged to 100 percent or completely losing power. This helps extend the overall life of the battery. Factors such as extreme temperatures, driving at higher sustained speeds, and the number of times you use your car's peripheral electronics can also affect how much power you get from each charge.
