How to activate a "starved" lithium battery?

Many people have bad habits, often people do not at home to put the electric car Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery on the car, the air switch is not turned off, put a few months do not drive. A few months later, when I came back to drive, I found that the car was dead and couldn't be charged. The charger is plugged in, but it is always green, even if it is plugged in for 24 hours, it is still green, because the Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery voltage is too low, and the charger output voltage is too big difference, the charger will not be able to flush electricity into the LiFePO4 Battery.

This situation is commonly referred to as the Lithium Batteries being "starved". The voltage of the cell block is usually only about 5.6V, not more than 6V. Such batteries are usually replaced. But it's a shame to replace a battery that costs hundreds, especially if it's just out of warranty.

Here are five better ways to save most of these starving LiFePO4 Battery. Note that most are not 100%.

Lithium Battery for Consumer Electronics


First, the series method. A normal 12-volt battery is connected in series. For example, if the original car has a 48V-20AH Lithium Polymer Battery, let's put another 12V-20AH battery in series. A sufficient 12V battery voltage is about 13V, after series can improve the voltage of the whole battery, and then use its original charger to charge, so it can be charged in, plug in the charger, the charger is red, at this time can be charged in. When the charger turns green, remove the battery connected in series. It can then be charged as normal.


Two, parallel method. This method is slightly more complicated. For example, the vehicle previously had 48V-20AH Lithium Polymer Battery and we connect another set of 48V-20AH batteries in parallel. It is known that the voltage is the same everywhere in the parallel circuit and the high voltage end will flow into the low voltage end. This method is also used by many Lithium Batteries dealers to test batteries that are completely dead. In this case, charging can also achieve the purpose of charging. The idea is similar to, say, a battery in series. It also raises the voltage of the whole group.

Three, low-voltage charging method. Choose a small charger to charge. For example, if we have a 60V-20AH battery, we use a 48V-20AH charger to charge it. This will fill it most of the time. The principle is also similar to the first method, bringing the charging voltage closer to the voltage at both ends of the battery.

Four, single battery charging method. A single battery can be activated by charging it with a 12-volt motorcycle charger, but this type of charging is relatively slow. In general, it takes more than 7 hours to charge the battery to a voltage of about 12V. If all the individual charging takes time.


Five, special charging method. Day charger there is automatic recognition of battery voltage, no matter how many volts a group of battery voltage, can automatically identify the voltage, he can charge in. For example, the original car is 60V-20AH battery, now only 30V less than, it can still charge to the inside. As the voltage increases, it ADAPTS to a higher voltage and recharges the battery.
