At present, electric vehicles on the market are generally equipped with lead-acid batteries because lead-acid batteries are relatively stable and the price is relatively low. When we use electric vehicles, we often encounter the situation that the battery does not give power after a certain period of time, and we often habitually think that the lead-acid battery is not of good quality or is broken by its own use. In fact, lead-acid batteries are often not broken, but charged, mastering the correct charging method plays a pivotal role in the service life and performance of the battery, remember to pay attention to the following points.

First, the depth of discharge of the lead-acid battery has a great impact on the cycle life of the battery, because the deeper the depth of discharge, the greater the amount of electrode expansion and contraction, the more the active substance of the positive electrode falls off, thus losing the discharge characteristics, performance decline, until the end of life. Therefore, the battery should be used as far as possible to avoid deep discharge, shallow discharge frequently charged, the general situation should be: the battery is charged once when the discharge depth is about 70% (that is, when the remaining power is about 30%).


Secondly, after the lead-acid battery has been discharged to the final voltage, further discharge (overdischarge) will seriously damage the battery, as it is easy for irreversible sulphation to form at this time, so that the charge recovery ability is poor or even irreparable. Therefore, overdischarging should be prevented when using the battery, and "undervoltage protection" is a useful measure. "Undervoltage protection" measures are controlled by the electric vehicle's controller, but because the electric vehicle's meters and indicators and other power-consuming devices are not controlled by the controller, so the electric vehicle's lock, once it is closed, begins to use electricity, although the current is small, but if the battery is discharged for a long time, there will be overdischarge. Therefore, the lock should not be opened for a long time and should be switched off immediately when not in use.


Thirdly, the charging current should be less than or equal to the charging current acceptable to the battery, otherwise the excess current generated by overcharging will cause the electrolytic water to be consumed too quickly and produce a serious gas out phenomenon, a long time will make charging very difficult, so as far as possible avoid overcharging when charging. A good manufacturer's charger can prevent the battery from being overcharged.


Fourth, the lead-acid battery is afraid of loss of power discharge, the loss of power battery is placed for 3-7 days, it will be possible to damage, therefore, please charge the battery as soon as possible after use. For batteries that are not used for a long time, the battery should be charged at intervals to compensate for the loss of self-discharge power when the battery is stored.
