Maintenance-free lead-acid battery repair method

The sealed maintenance-free battery adopts the newly designed fully sealed structure and modern production technology in the 1990s. It has the excellent performance of high performance, long life, no pollution, no maintenance, safe and reliable.

Lead-acid batteries are composed of positive and negative plates, bulkheads, shells, electrolytes and wiring piles, etc. The chemical reaction of discharge is to rely on positive plate active substances (lead dioxide and lead) and negative plate active substances (spongiform pure lead) under the action of the electrolyte (dilute sulfuric acid solution), in which the grid frame of the plate, traditional batteries are made of lead-antimony alloy. Maintenance-free batteries are made of lead-calcium alloys, the former with antimony, the latter with calcium, which is the fundamental difference between the two. Different materials will produce different phenomena: the traditional battery will reduce the liquid phenomenon during use, because the antimony on the grid will pollute the sponge-like pure lead on the negative plate, weaken the back electromotive force in the battery after being fully charged, resulting in excessive decomposition of water, a large number of oxygen and hydrogen respectively escape from the positive and negative plates, so that the electrolyte is reduced. With calcium instead of antimony, you can change the back electromotive force of the fully charged battery, reduce the overcharge flow, and reduce the liquid gasification speed, thereby reducing the loss of electrolyte.

Because the maintenance-free battery uses lead-calcium alloy grid frame, the amount of water decomposition generated during charging is small, the amount of water evaporation is low, coupled with the sealed structure of the shell, the released sulfuric acid gas is also very small, so compared with the traditional battery, it does not need to add any liquid, less corrosion of the wiring pile and wire, strong resistance to overcharging, large starting current, long storage time and other advantages.

Maintenance-free battery because of its normal charging voltage, the electrolyte only produces a small amount of gas, the plate has a strong anti-overcharging ability, and has small internal resistance, good starting performance at low temperature, longer service life than the Conventional Battery and so on, so during the entire use of the distilled water does not need to be added, in the charging system under normal circumstances, do not need to be removed from the supplementary charging. However, the proportion of its electrolyte should be checked during maintenance.

Most maintenance-free batteries have a hole-shaped liquid (temperature-compensated) hydrometer in the cap that changes color in response to changes in the specific gravity of the electrolyte. It can indicate the storage status of the battery and the height of the electrolyte level. When the indicator eye of the hydrometer is green, it indicates that the charge is sufficient and the battery is normal; When the green point of the indicating eye is few or black, it indicates that the battery needs to be charged; When the indicator eye shows light yellow, it indicates that there is a fault inside the battery and it needs to be repaired or replaced.

When possible, the maintenance-free battery can be charged by a charging device with current-voltage characteristics. The device can ensure sufficient power, but also can avoid overcharging and consumption of more water.

Generally, this kind of maintenance-free battery can be stored for 10 months from the factory to use, and its voltage and capacitance remain unchanged, and the voltage and capacitance of the poor quality will decline in about 3 months after the factory. At the time of purchase, select 3 months from the production date, you can check whether the voltage and capacitance of the battery meet the requirements of the manual on the spot, if the voltage and capacitance have fallen, it means that the material inside is not good, then the quality of the battery is certainly not good, it may be the water battery after charging the dealer disguised.

The maintenance-free battery can also be supplemented with charging, and the charging method is basically the same as that of ordinary batteries. The voltage of each cell should be limited to 2.3-2.4V during charging. Note that charging using conventional charging methods will consume more water, and the charging current should be slightly smaller (5A or less) when charging. Do not charge quickly, otherwise, the battery may explode, resulting in injury. When the hydrometer of the maintenance-free battery is displayed as light yellow or red, it indicates that the battery is close to being scrapped, and the service life is not long even if it is recharged. Charging at this time can only be used as a quick fix.
